The House of Peace and Love Project (HPLP) is a community-based education initiative in the village of Visiga, Tanzania. Tanzania ni nchi ya amani na upendo--Tanzania is a country of peace and love, but also a country of widespread poverty and scant access to educational resources, particularly in rural areas. Visiga is a rural community, comprised mostly of farmers and laborers. The village is located approximately one hour west of Dar es Salaam, on Morogoro Road. The HPLP provides educational, cultural and recreational opportunities to children, through a children's center with onsite preschool, artistic development, and sports programs. Finally, the HPLP is an ongoing cultural collaboration between community leaders in Tanzania and Portland, Oregon, USA.
