Jay Boss Rubin, Project Coordinator

Jay Boss Rubin is a native of Portland, Oregon, USA. He graduated from Lincoln High School, then attended Boston University, where he studied Swahili, creative writing and other subjects. In 2002 Jay traveled to Tanzania for the first time to take part in the University of Dar-es-Salaam's Intensive Summer Swahili program. On this trip, Jay met Elvis Kimisha and Fokas Nchimbi, and learned about their respective passions for helping children and community education.
Upon returning to Portland, Jay founded the PORTLAND CHALLENGE an annual fording of the Willamette River and fundraiser for the HPLP. Jay currently resides in Portland, Oregon, where he is a retired doughnut fryer, periodic Swahili instructor, and project coordinator for the HPLP.
